FAQ

What type of equipment do you use?

Lakeside Productions uses the same camera and editing equipment for wedding videos that it uses for broadcast television work.

For your wedding video, we are likely to use Sony HVR S270's which are capable of recording standard or high definition pictures to both tape and hard disk at the same time for extra security.
For sound, we use wireless digital radio microphones to avoid unsightly and dangerous cables.
All footage is edited using Apple's Final Cut Studio software.

Why not choose a friend to film our wedding?

Most of us now own video cameras and you may have a friend who is willing to film your special day. Please consider the following if you are considering this option:

It's unlikely that your friend's camera equipment will be of the required standard to produce stunning results in terms of picture and sound quality.
Expensive editing equipment is also required to produce unique title sequences, special effects and menu driven DVDs.
If the sound is recorded from the camera microphone alone, don't expect to hear much at all.
If you have visitors from overseas, can your friend produce DVD copies that they are able to play at home?
Filming the average wedding ceremony is a huge responsibility and hard work. Many days are spent afterwards editing the footage to a high standard, so avoid disappointment and let your friend or relative with a camcorder enjoy the celebrations.

Lakeside Productions has over 25 years experience in broadcast television and can ensure that you receive a highly professional video.

How long before we receive the video?

This depends on the package you have chosen. Generally we aim to complete the average 1 hour video in approximately 2 weeks but please allow 4 weeks during the summer months.

Can we make copies of the video?

Yes of course. Unlike many other companies, Lakeside Productions does not write-protect the discs and is happy for you to make as many copies as you wish. Remember however, that if your DVD contains music, you may need to apply for a music licence to remain within the law. All DVDs produced by Lakeside Productions are covered by the appropriate PPL and MCPS music licences.
We archive all tapes for one year after the wedding and do not dispose of any tapes without contacting you first.

Can we pay for the uncut footage only?

Yes. It is possible to supply all the footage first and edit the video at a later date when budgets allow. The cost of this option is £300 irrespective of the package chosen (up to a maximum of 10 hours). Footage will be supplied on tape but can be transferred to a hard drive for £30.

Standard or High Definition?

Most of our weddings continue to be filmed in widescreen standard definition, as they remain compatible with all TV formats. It's likely that in a few years time, most of us will own high definition systems that will still be capable of playing standard definition DVDs. If you do require HD quality, then our cameras are capable of filming widescreen (16:9) 1080i footage, and we will be happy to oblige at no extra cost.

Please bear in mind that while HD footage can be down-converted to standard definition, the quality is never quite as good as if shot in standard definition in the first place.
